The 7th PhD Conference in Immunology, was held on 25th–26th September 2023, in Svatý Jan pod Skalou, Czech Republic. The conference in total hosted sixty attendees including PhD students, supervisors, faculty members, keynote speakers and sponsors. The main topics covering cancer immunology and immunotherapy, immunology of infectious diseases, autoimmunity and inflammation, as well as immunoregulation and function of lymphocytes, were discussed in the form of three keynote lectures, 12 student talks and 31 posters. A panel discussion about the challenges of publication process was organized for the students.

Briefly, first day, Dr. Magdaléna Krulová and Dr. Jan Dobeš opened the conference by greeting the participants and delivering a short talk about the aims and scopes. In the morning session, Prof. Matteo Iannacone gave a speech about studying the immune surveillance in the liver with focus on adaptive immune responses during host-virus interactions using intravital microscopy. The program continued by presentations from PhD students and lunch break. In the afternoon session, Dr. Anetta Härtlova presented her lab’s research on the role of endolysosomal pathways in inflammation and infection in the context of ageing and age-related pathologies, followed by presentations from PhD students and poster session outside. The dinner was traditionally held in a pub U Krobiana, about 1 km away. The highlight of the evening was the Ultrapunk concert, which got the whole hall dancing and showed how PhD students can have fun.

The second day continued with breakfast and a short hike to the viewpoint. This hike initiated a chat among the participants and refreshed us for the next program, where Dr. Matthew Hepworth delivered a speech concerning the regulation of innate lymphoid cells, with focus on ILC3 phenotype and function on maintaining tissue homeostasis. Later, participants held a panel discussion on the challenges and solutions for publishing an article, which then followed by the last round of students presenting their research work.
